Hilton Head Island Vacation Guide By : Ken Snow
Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is a popular destination for tourists. The island is home to large plantations, impressive agricultural lands, and has a haunting history. According to the local lore, William Hilton, an English sea captain, stayed in South Carolina when he was looking for places suitable for settlement by the British in 1663. He claimed the island for England and planned to establish profitable plantations on the land, taking advantage of its rich soil.
Captain Hilton was not the first person to discover South Carolina. Many explorers from Europe had been there before him. The Spanish named the headland of South Carolina “la punta de Santa Elena” in 1525, for example. The actual first settlers on the island, which is known as the lowlands of South Carolina, probably lived there in 10,000 BC. Many artifacts and relics have been discovered dating from this time and representing the early Native American way of life on the island. These artifacts are on display in the local museums, and they remind the visitor of the civilization that existed long before Europeans came to the area.
The island is famous for its art and entertainment as well as its interesting history. There are many opportunities for visitors to attend theater, music, and dance events on Hilton Head Island. The Self Family Arts Center offers a showcase for various entertainers every year. The center includes the Elizabeth Wallace Theater as well. An excellent display of fine art is available at the Walter Greer Gallery, which has an assortment of works including sculpture, paintings, and photographs. Juried art shows and other events happen throughout the year, providing a display of the varied and rich cultural environment of the Hilton Head Island community.
Also on the island are many year-round recreational activities. Visitors can participate in deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, boating, or water skiing. They may prefer just to walk on the wonderful beaches or to go biking, rollerblading, or skating their way around the island. There are many points of interest on any route. # Why Is Dubai Swarmed By Celebrities? By : Pankaj Mohan
If you looked on the various news headlines emerging from the Middle East, you will notice a substantial shift taking place in the manner they have been reporting about this region as a whole. From various military coups to the stories of political vendetta; from gun totting hostage takers to the unnerving interpretation of Islam; and from the so-called lack of democratization to the non existent human rights, the Middle East has always had to bear the brunt of hostile news reporting. But, the emerging trade and commerce and tourism activities in Dubai are fundamentally changing this long held stereotyped interpretation of the Muslim world now.
Don’t be surprised therefore, if the British footballer David Beckham and the Spice Girl Victoria are seen walking out of one of its famous five star hotels, or if the reigning formula one champion Michael Schumacher is spotted unwinding somewhere on its breathtaking shorelines. You will also come to notice some very famous names from the corporate world making regular rounds of this famous city. From top cine stars to sports celebrities and from the multi-billion empire holders to the average holiday making freaks, all are increasingly being seen on Dubai’s soil these days. This in itself, speaks a lot of how dramatically the world’s vision of the Middle East has transformed.
The next round of Dubai Tennis Championships to be held in February and March 2007 will be another treat for the tennis lovers and the media managers both. Names like the William sisters - Serena and Venus and Andre Agassi have played on this venue and enthralled the audiences in the recent past. Equally reported have had been the events like a friendly match organized between Andre Agassi and Roger Federer on the helipad of Burj Al Arab hotel. Tennis balls kept falling down inside the Arabian sea as the two players proceeded with some of their favourite strokes. Not too behind was Tiger Woods who made use of the same helipad for his golf practice. Woods was in Dubai to take part in the Dubai Desert Classic and couldn’t resist the temptation of practicing on such a breathtaking height.
If the celebrity spotting has become one of the new trends in Dubai’s social life, then so is the emerging competition among the hotel owners for making the best out of this pulsating market. They are making all efforts, like building of more niche hotels, to cap this upscale clientele. This means exclusively targeting the business travellers and the multimillionaires from across the globe. Apart from Dubai, Lebanon and Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt have also been trying to raise their stakes. However, the former is well ahead in the race involving these three.
Dubai’s desire of opening its borers to the outside world has been well received and reciprocated by the latter. As a result we are witnessing the very fundamental image of the Middle East taking a new turn in the global environment. By allowing so many expatriates on its soil, Dubai has made its friendly intentions clear. Expatriates will continue on playing a crucial role in the local economy, hence making the exchange of the Arabian peninsula with the outside world stronger. It speaks of a pleasing scenario, which will continue to get on more shades with each passing day.

Top Notch Choices For Traveling In The Caribbean Islands - By : Gregg Hall
If you have never traveled to the islands of the Caribbean you don’t know what you’re missing, it is truly paradise if such a place exists. The Caribbean Sea runs from South America up to the Gulf of Mexico and meets with the Atlantic Ocean on the East.
It is not surprising that it is the vacation destination of choice for North and South America with natural beauty rarely seen any where else on the planet. Some of the islands feature lush mountains lined with coconut trees and valleys filled with sugar cane and bananas but it is the beaches and the azure waters that bring people back time after time.
When you see how beautiful the Caribbean Islands are you will understand why the British, Spanish, and the French fought over them for centuries after the area was found by Columbus when he got lost trying to find a short cut to India. You will still find the influences of the former colonial dictatorships on St. Croix, Bermuda, Aruba, and other islands with a mixture of both the native cultures and the culture of the colonists who settled there.
There are well over fifty distinctive island vacation spots to choose from with some of them, like the Bahamas, having dozens of islands themselves. One thing is sure; you will never be cold in the Caribbean!
The island of New Providence in the Bahamas is sometimes called Nassau by mistake because that is where the capital of the Bahamas is located. This island, which is a short hop from the east coast of Florida, is home to the majority of Bahamians and is also an offshore financial center with millions of dollars being invested and sheltered there. There is also of course, the famous shopping on Bay Street and the little side streets nearby. Be sure to take in the flavor of the local music as well, which is as famous as the azure waters around the islands.
Another top choice in the Bahamas is Eleuthera, one of the outermost islands and also one of the least developed. If it is your goal to go to a beautiful place that is sparsely populated and a little more primitive, this would be my suggestion. Eleuthera has little night life to speak of, unless you consider the little bar, Elvira’s where Lenny Kravitz is known to hang out sometimes. Lenny owns a house there, his mom is Bahamian.
Almost anyplace you stay will be walking distance to the beach and the different areas of the island are so diverse you would probably have to make several trips to be able to appreciate them all. We stayed for a month and still didn’t get to see everything we wanted. You will definitely want a rental car though because the taxi service is unreliable at best and there is no public transportation. Picking up hitch hikers is an everyday occurrence and a fun way to integrate into the culture.

4. Cruises, Yachting
5. Culinary, Historical trips

Very Active
1. Extreme sports (wakeboarding, skydiving, zero-gravity, bungee jumping, wind tunnel, flying)
2. Rock climbing, mountain climbing, ice climbing
3. Dog sledding
4. Touring/Mountain biking
5. Expeditions
There are dozens of adventure companies who specialize in travel adventure. Go to their websites and check out their offerings. Even your travel agent may have a department that offers adventure trips. Ask for a brochure and talk to the sales person to discuss your choices.
Before going on a trip, here are a few reminders to make sure it’s as smooth sailing and hassle-free as it should be:
- Talk to the adventure company and make sure you know what is in the adventure package so you know what to expect. Ask the company or call up foreign embassies to inquire about visa requirements.
- Bring your own first aid kits, prescription and emergency medication. Most companies will provide first aid and some medical assistance, but it’s best to have a kit handy. And, since you’re going on an adventure, the nearest pharmacy may be a dozen miles away.
- Be sure to have photocopies of your important documents - passports, visas, identification, reference numbers, credit cards and the like. Keep a set with you and leave another with somebody you can trust to fax it to you should you need it. Have your documents scanned and save them in your email just in case you lose or misplace them.
- Bring extra photos (passport size is good). Some countries require photographs for documentation.
- Check your travel insurance.
- Get the addresses and contact information of your embassies in the country you’re visiting.
- Get medical advice. Ask your medical practitioner what you need to do to protect yourself. You might need to have vaccine shots done a few weeks prior to your trip. Inquire also what medical or health hazards you should watch out for in the particular area or country you are planning to visit.
- Make sure that you are physically and emotionally ready for the kind of adventure that you signed up for. If you have a fear of heights, then a hot air balloon will not be a good idea. Sure, it’s an adventure but scaring yourself is really unnecessary.
- Read as much as you can about the country you’re visiting - its people, customs and traditions. Remember that when you visit a country, you are a foreigner there and as a sign of good will, why not show respect for certain traditions or customs by being aware of them and avoid offending anyone.
- Pack lightly and bring the right kind of clothing. Waterproof, sun-protected clothing with breathable fabrics are good ideas. Pack also some essentials like a flashlight, sewing kit, toiletries, lighter, tape, safety pins, padlocks, all-in-one-knives and even plastic bags for extra containers.
- Be sure to bring the right kind of footwear. Some of the best adventure trips have been ruined because of the wrong kind of shoes. Besides, the type of shoes you need or your size may not be readily available in the country you’re visiting.
- Be sure to find a safe way to carry around your money and credit cards. On trips, there is always a chance that you will spend more than you planned, so bring extra cash and keep it in a safe place. During the trip, don’t touch it unless absolutely necessary. Make sure too that you have access to banks and ATMs just in case you run short.
Lastly, remember that even the best laid plans can suffer from glitches. Don’t expect too much and be flexible enough to fully enjoy your adventure while you’re there. No vacation is perfect, but with the right attitude and thirst for adventure, each trip will be as uniquely inspiring as it will be unforgettable.
